Chemical company Merck has named blue-glow purple as its effect color of the year for 2017.
The violet shadow continues the trend towards shades of reddish blue and bluish red. It can be used on a variety of shades in cosmetics, plastic or printed products and on coated surfaces.
"Fruity and fresh like plums and at the same time reminiscent of ancient roses and ripe fruits, they are attributes that inspire the tendency to reddish tones. Our versatile shade trend creates punk and real prints through a calm and mysterious color, which can also appear vibrant," said Filip Roscam, director of pigment design and functional materials at Merck.
Effect pigments allow shade to vary between a transition from more reddish to bluish gloss, depending on the viewing angle and surface properties.
