Wacker will expand its research and development facilities for silicones by establishing a new R&D center based in Ann Arbor, MI, USA.
The facility is dedicated to supporting Wacker's global product and business development in the North, Central and South American regions. In a first phase, the Group is investing a figure in millions of dollars of a single digit, mainly for equipment and installation of laboratories. The facility will officially open in the first half of 2017.
The center consists of several R&D and analysis laboratories. Wacker's project aims to carry out from the beginning to include health and healthcare applications, solutions for coatings and paints, silicone-based softeners, and personal hygiene. The laboratories will be operated by Wacker Chemical Corporation (CMI), and its North, Central and South American subsidiary, and will be staffed by highly specialized experts in the field of polymer and silicone chemistry.
