To support growth around the world, Arkema is expanding its production capacity of special polyamides in China and the United States.
At the company's Zhangjiagang headquarters in Jiangsu Province, China, which specializes in special specialty polyamides of biological origin, Arkema is increasing its composition capabilities and in 2017 will bring into operation two production lines for the manufacture of polyamide 11, in addition to polyamide 10, which is already produced on site. Polyamide 11 is used in the automotive industry, consumer electronics and sports sectors.
With these developments and other investments made in recent years at the headquarters, Arkema is consolidating its offering and increasing the flexibility of its manufacturing plants in Asia for bio-based polyamides marketed under the name Rilsan.
In the United States, a new investment in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, the headquarters will allow the manufacture of new grades of biological origin for the sports and electronics market. Arkema is complementing its range of Pebax thermoplastic elastomers, particularly sought after for their light weight, impact resistance, robustness and flexibility at temperatures as low as -40°C.
These investments are part of the development of the group's research and growth platforms related to material weight reduction, material design, solutions for electronics, and the development of products of biological origin.
