The management of chemical products in the paint industry was the subject of a workshop organized on August 17 by Abrafati, through its Committee on the Environment, Health and Occupational Safety.
With abiquim's support, the event brought together 60 industry professionals at Senai Mario Amato to discuss and deepen understanding of the issues that affect the day-to-day business. There were two blocks of short talks, both moderated by Roland Bircher, Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs at Sherwin-Williams, who integrated the issues and managed the debate.
In the first, Luc Turkenburg, Global Head of Regulatory Affairs at AkzoNobel, spoke about the management of priority substances through risk assessment, with a program developed and used by the company. Afterwards, Camila Hubner Barcellos, Regulatory Affairs Advisor at Abiquim, showed what has been done in the area of chemical safety and in the Responsible Care program. Gilmar Trivelato, Fundacentro principal investigator, in turn, addressed the evaluation and control of occupational exposure.
The second block began with the speech of Nelson Gimenez, Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Product Management of AkzoNobel, on the chemical incompatibility and the care that must be taken in the storage and handling of substances and finished products.
To close the event, Susana Costa, a chemist with BASF's support laboratories, addressed the fundamental issue of labelling.
"It was a very productive meeting, which brought together information that complements each other and is associated with key issues for the paint industry, in relation to environmental care, safety and health at work," says Gisele Bonfim, technical manager of environmental affairs at Abrafati.
