The quality of sports such as Olympic sailing and surfing in Guanabare Bay has been questionable by different athletes. Therefore the Dutch Olympic team has taken action, in advance.
With screens, Brasilia tries to stop the garbage from the rivers. People there are working on a pipeline system to transport the waste into the sea and testing chemical pesticides to purify the bay. So far without the desired result.

For that reason and in order to prevent Dutch sailors from getting sick, the Dutch Olympic Committee has conducted tests with a special bactericidal coating. This applies to the boat, but can also be used on the skin of Olympic sailors.
