One of Toyota's new models became the first production vehicle to offer a rear window in polycarbonate (PC) material with a plasma-coated solution designed to offer the highest level of durability.
So far, manufacturers have produced rear windows on PCs using only wet coating solutions. Depending on the type of vehicle and the position of the passenger, these solutions can meet industry requirements for weather resistance and abrasion resistance in that window location. In some cases, however, a higher level of performance is required to meet the needs of the driver's visibility.
To enhance this, this flexible glass-like coating is deposited on top of a wet coating to improve performance. The application of this advanced coating has made it possible to meet Toyota's high quality requirements. The window is about 50% lighter compared to a conventional glass solution.
The vehicle that was coated is the special edition of the sports car 86 GRMN. The supplier of the coating is Sabic, headquartered in Saudi Arabia.
