KIA Motors Corporation highlighted advances in reducing the environmental impact of its production operations, reducing waste generation by 30% and recycling about 94% of waste materials.
Unused zinc-coated steel is shipped to steel manufacturers in Korea, while uncoated steel is recycled for use in smelting at KIA's facility at its Gwangju plant.
The company also introduced programs for the recycling and reuse of paints and thinners, while other waste is used to make cement for construction, as well as other materials.
Likewise, KIA Motors began operations at its new plant in Nuevo León, Mexico, with advanced technology manufacturing processes that minimize environmental impact. Among the innovations installed there is a new paint shop with a regenerative thermal oxidation system.
