Brenntag has published its 2016 sustainability report. In this report, the company documents its activities and achievements in the areas of safety, environmental protection, supply chain responsibility, employees and social participation.
Steven Netherlands, CEO of Brenntag AG, commented: "We continue to improve and develop sustainability as a core value within our company. Our goal is to contribute to greater sustainability across the various sections of industries we serve, recognizing our central position in the supply chain. We have made significant progress in 2015 in increasing transparency and the active participation of all stakeholders."
In 2015, Brenntag developed a group-level program to achieve global transparency regarding its own energy consumption and the identification of potential energy and CO2 savings. As a member of the chemical industry's "Together for Sustainability" (TFS) initiative, for the first time, the company requested around 200 of its suppliers to undergo sustainability assessments as the basis for an assessment of their sustainability performance. The common goal of all TFS members is to establish a uniform global audit program for the responsible purchasing of products and services in the chemical industry and to improve ecological and social standards in the supply chain.
In terms of safety, in the reference year, Brenntag has once again achieved a reduction in the rate of group accidents. In 2015, Brenntag consulted its employees on occupational health and safety issues and launched a global initiative that aims to deliver continuous improvements in the Group's safety culture.
