PPG announced that it has expanded technical service and development capabilities for the aerospace and military coatings sector at its headquarters in Shildon, England, with a US$2 million investment supporting the installation of advanced technology equipment support for paint characteristic assessment.
Environmentally controlled paint booths and a set of complementary rooms now allow PPG headquarters to streamline the launch of new products and produce more exact color matches.
A paint booth, which can accommodate an aircraft section or a small military vehicle, provides variable temperature and humidity settings for product development and formation. A second paint spray booth, which keeps the temperature and relative humidity setting constant, is designed to apply coatings to the panels to customize color requests. An expanded test lab has a color mixing zone and constant temperature and humidity adjustments. The new sanding, drying and oven rooms offer the full range of processing applications from preparation to drying in controlled environments.
