AkzoNobel has started production at its fourth – and largest – decorative paint plant in China. Located in Chengdu, the new plant represents an important milestone in the company's growth plans in the west of the country.
The new plant is part of an investment of more than €50 million to build manufacturing facilities for both powder coatings and decorative paints.
The new decorative paint headquarters of 55,000 square meters has the highest standards of sustainability and safety of the company. All products produced will be water-based and solvent-free, and the facility's manufacturing environment will generate fewer carbon emissions and be more sustainable.
Given its central location, the headquarters will enable extensive savings in transportation costs and an optimized logistics network will reduce carbon emissions by eight kilotons per year – equivalent to the carbon emissions of 3,000 tons of standard coal.
AkzoNobel now has four decorative paint production plants in China. Its other headquarters in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Langfang cover the southern, eastern and northern regions of the country, respectively. AkzoNobel employs about 7,500 people in China and generated €1.8 billion in locally managed revenue in 2015.
