Solvay Aroma Performance announced its plan to generate additional hydroquinone (HQ) production capacity in China, which will be commissioned in 2018. The company explained that this investment is based on an environmentally friendly and innovative technology.
In addition, the Global Business Unit will expand its methyl hydroquinone capacity worldwide (MEHQ also referred to as PMP – paramethoxyphenol). Both projects will support Solvay's captive needs as well as the growth of the HQ and MEHQ markets, particularly in Asia.
"This decision will strengthen the company's leading position in growing markets, such as monomer inhibition with a full range of solutions including PDZs from the acquisition of Cytec, specialty polymers and coating applications, as well as the food antioxidants we are positioning ourselves in." said Dominique Rage, President of the GBU. "This significant increase in capacity improves our reliability to our customers and will enable new growth opportunities.""
