Argentina.
During the month of April, the automotive manufacturer Fiat will carry out a plan of personnel suspensions in order to adapt to the current financial situation that Brazil is going through, which has meant a reduction in the sales of its vehicles.
This measure will affect workers at the Ferreyra paint, sheet metal and assembly plant, in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. "The company announced suspensions on Fridays and almost every Monday, as a result of the fact that Brazil is not demanding the number of vehicles that Fiat estimates and the outlook does not seem to improve in the medium term," Leonardo Almada, press secretary of Smata, told the Panorama newspaper.
This plant exports most of its production to Brazil, and in 2015 it had to reduce its manufacturing and make suspensions due to the economic crisis that the Brazilian giant is going through.
However, Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) announced that it will invest about US$600 million in the plant in this city to produce a new model that would be produced in May 2017. "Investment announcements in the automotive industry are not overnight. Since the parent company decides to make the investment for a new model, a reasonable time passes until the building and the lines are adapted to that new product," Almada told Radio Universidad.
