Toyota began marketing its new line of Prius and Prius C vehicles that have as a novelty the implementation of a paint called "Thermo-Tect Lime Green".
This paint has as its main feature to avoid the excessive heating of vehicles in the sun. The particular thing about this painting is that it is only available in lime green and at the moment it is only being sold in the Japanese market.
The paint has in its composition small titanium particles and lacks black carbon pigments, so the absorption of heat – infrared radiation – is considerably minimized. Studies carried out by Toyota in Japan show that the surface temperature of the car in full sun is about 5 degrees lower than a conventional paint.
Although Toyota knows very well that the use of white paint allows to reflect heat by up to 70% and about 55% with silver paints, the manufacturer wants to show that these percentages can be achieved with other not so conventional colors.
