Brazil. The Minister of Mines and Energy, Eduardo Braga, recently received in an audience members of the Parliamentary Front of Chemistry, sectoral leaders and executives of the chemical sector, representatives of the unions and the mayors of the municipalities where the petrochemical complexes are located.
The meeting was attended by the Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers (Abrafati), represented by Antonio Lacerda and Dilson Ferreira, President of the Board of Directors and Executive Director, respectively.
Three priority issues for the competitiveness of the sector were brought to the minister: the implementation of a long-term solution for the supply of naphtha, the regulation of natural gas as a raw material (delinking it from the fuel price policy) and the maintenance of the Special Regime of the Chemical Industry (Reiq), threatened by the measures proposed by the Government.
"The minister was willing to seek solutions to these three issues, which directly affect the costs of the paint industry. Our industry needs measures to protect its competitiveness, which is already being hit hard by currency devaluation, as much of our commodities are traded in dollars," said Dilson Ferreira.
