Brazil. The Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers (Abrafati) participates in meetings with the vice president and congressional leaders to present an alternative proposal on ending the payroll tax reduction.
Representatives of various business entities, including Abrafati, were in Brasilia to defend an alternative to the bill that establishes a change in the payroll tax reduction system. The aim is to make a significant contribution to fiscal adjustment, but to reduce the impact of tax increases.
This exemption, which they consider very important for the paint industry, was defended from the beginning by Abrafati, as well as by other sectors. Led by Paulo Skaf, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP), the movement grew and gained strength in the search for a solution that would lead to the bill being modified.
The group of businessmen met with the vice president, Michel Temer, who welcomed the proposal, highlighting the union of the group as a key factor for success. After that, there was a meeting with the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros, who recognized the importance of the issue and led to another meeting with the leaders of the banks and the rapporteur of the bill, Senator Eunício Oliveira. The group also met with Deputy Eduardo Cunha, who was sensitized by his arguments.
"We know about the state of public finances and we agreed to make our contribution. We want to avoid, however, overloading the industry in a difficult year like this, which would further hurt economic activity," said Dilson Ferreira, Abrafati's chief executive.
