Paint Supplies Decline in Venezuela

Venezuela. The decrease in basic inputs for the formulation of paints has been highlighted by the president of the Venezuelan Association of the Chemical and Petrochemical Industry (Asoquim), Juan Pablo Olalquiaga.

The lack of inputs such as plastic resins, titanium oxide and refrigerant gases, which in turn, have caused a decline in the market for packaging, paints and products for air conditioners.

"There has been a significant decrease in imports of titanium oxide and other pigments to make paint," olalquiaga said, in recent statements to a national chain, adding that the Association does not have enough inputs to work, a drama that they have been suffering in the last two years.

"The company that manufactures the plastic resins, which are then transformed into packaging, have been paralyzed," he says. Such is the case of the plastic punch, as he emphasizes, "input with many problems to manufacture."

In March 2015, Asoquim denounced that the production capacity would not last long, if the necessary measures were not taken so that the raw material reaches the manufacturers.  According to figures from the association, the sector requires at least 1,300 million dollars annually to operate and in 2014 they only received 500 million dollars.

"In Venezuela we have a shortage of everything, the shortage is that you stopped getting the product at the moment, with the quality and price that you require," said Olalquiaga.
