Germany. AkzoNobel's high-performance coatings business is working with global technology company Siemens to provide coatings and corrosion protection for the expansion of a power plant located in Düsseldorf.
Siemens is the engineering and construction contractor for the New Fortuna Block at the Lausward Nuclear Power Plant, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2016. AkzoNobel will supply several thousand liters of high-performance coatings for the plant's structural steel and piping.
The plant will achieve several records in terms of production and efficiency, including the largest combined cycle gas turbine power plant and the highest net energy conversion. It also features a glass section, designed by German architects Kadawittfeldarchitektur, providing a modern and aesthetic touch to the traditional power installation.
