International. Recognized as one of the most important design competitions in the world: the Red Dot Award: Product Design, awarded a basfighter paint technology from BASF.
For the first time in the 60-year history of the competition, an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) automotive paint has been awarded the coveted "Red Dot" award. The 38 members of the jury, who are independent design experts, chose the winners from among the 4,928 submissions from all areas of industrial design. Evaluation criteria include a degree of the innovation product, its durability, and its symbolic and emotional content.
This technology is an exclusive color effect for the automotive industry that shines in a very striking way and thus creates a much more intense effect than other effect pigments. The material is applied in a single stage in a single thick layer of 10 to 20 microns, along with pigmented paint. This corresponds to 10 - 20% of the thickness of a human hair. The result is a homogeneous surface that allows a special depth that comes around in the finishes thanks to a pure reflection and solid color.
The product is known as Xspark.
