Latin America. Issue 26-5 addresses in its main article the transformation towards a circular economy model to which the paints and coatings industry in Latin America is transitioning.
According to ECLAC, the circular economy offers an opportunity for development in the region, both through the creation of new economic activities linked to the provision of environmental goods and services and through the transformation of existing economic activities to increase their material efficiency and reduce their environmental impact.
Some companies in the sector have made progress with the implementation of their own indicators that facilitate progress throughout the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and, in particular, in those Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On the other hand, Vanessa Palomo describes different generalities of defoaming agents by indicating how we can control foaming in industrial processes such as a coating.
"The presence of foam in the paint process would not only affect the optimal, homogeneous mixing and final characteristics that the brand designer wishes to bring to market, but also has negative consequences for the cost and time of production," he says.
In the following pages, Juan Manuel Álvarez explains the different corrosion inspection tests, which must be "objectively selected according to the operational or functional need for a process, test or investigation".
Some examples among the paints are the density of those that are liquid, the non-volatile content, identification of oils, detection of lead in paints, viscosity of each of the components, as well as viscosity of the mixture.
Next, Jaime Baldeon discusses other properties to consider when selecting paints for different exposure conditions. These include flexibility and resistance to ultraviolet light and gloss retention.
For his part, engineer Abel De la Cruz presents the steps to implement comprehensive corrosion management strategies, which allows industries "to reduce maintenance costs, extend the useful life of assets, improve safety and minimize environmental impact."
In the meantime, we present an interview with the CEO of El Galgo, a company that manufactures and markets professional tools for the paint market in South America. Mr. Guido Hajtmacher delves into the changes that the company has been implementing for several years.
Finally, as this year's Professional of the Month, we highlight the role of father that Andross Corona, current manager of New Business Development for the Americas at Röhm, has assumed from a very young age.
