International. In a recent study by researchers from Tunisia and India, nanocomposite coatings of unsaturated polyester nanoclay showed effective corrosion protection of steel.
Polymeric compounds are widely used to control corrosion of metal surfaces. Several types of polymer nanocomposites provide better corrosion protection than clean resins. A recently published article aims to review some of the protective properties of Tunisian clay (montmorillonite-MMT) / unsaturated polyester (UP / MMT) in 3.5% NaCl.
The rotational coating technique is applied to metals deposited on a stainless steel surface. The samples are characterized with XRD, TEM and SEM methods. Corrosion performance was estimated using open circuit potential, polarization measurements, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. UP/OMMT nanocomposites showed the best corrosion protection performance.
