International. Basf announced that it will increase its annual global production capacity for the manufacture of the chemical intermediate 1,6-hexanediol (HDO) by more than 20%, which would mean the production of more than 50,000 tons per year in 2014.
To this end, the company reported that it will optimize its production processes, carry out several infrastructure projects and improve its logistics processes. The investment will be worth more than 30 million euros.
"By increasing our capacity and further optimizing our operations, we will respond to the growing demand for innovation in high-performance formulations," said Sanjeev Gandhi, president of Basf's intermediates division.
HDO is used for the manufacture of industrial paints including formulations with reduction of volatile organic compounds, polyurethane plastics, adhesives and cosmetics.
