United States. Evonik announced that it has begun its plans for the installation of a methyl methacrylate (MMA) production plant, using the process dubbed Aveneer.
The large-scale plant known as Mobile, located in Alabama, will have a production capacity of 120,000 metric tons and is expected to become operational by mid-2015, and will generate about 100 jobs.
Methacrylate monomers and their derivatives are the material starting point for innovative products for resource-efficient solutions, such as for lightweight construction in the automotive industry.
The Aveneer process is distinguished, according to Evonik, by improving the carbon footprint and by being ecological. Emissions in CO2 processes are less than 1,000 kg of CO2 per metric ton of MMA, or a little more than half of the current value.
