Argentina. In the United States, the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) obtained a patent for a bactericidal paint that can be used in the local industry without affecting the current production process.
According to the News Agency of Argentina, Télam, the development of this novel proposal consisted of superficially modifying the inorganic components used in the paint industry (fillers and pigments) in order to impart antimicrobial properties to them. The modified pigments and fillers distribute bactericidal properties to the paints that are maintained throughout the life of the coating.
During its development phase, the researchers used metals to develop this technology for hospitals or other sites where asepsis is paramount.
The invention had already won awards such as the Innovative Product in the Innovar 2007 Contest, and that same year it received recognition in the Nanotechnology Area of the 6th Technological Conference on Development and Technological Innovation, organized by INTI.
