United States. El Consejo de Adhesivos y Sellantes (ASC) recently proposed modifications to ASTM 1193 standard guidance on the use of the sealant set, to incorporate terminology that will help position sustainability for industry stakeholders.
This topic was discussed during the ASTM meeting called C-24, which was held in January 2012 and was scheduled to take place throughout this year.
The recommendations emerged during the Security Summit in July 2011. The following terms were identified as important to sustainability efforts: recycling, embodied energy, and renewable content.
"The result will define and/or recognize how sealants are sustainable and help guide decision-making for designers and applicators on the issue of sustainability. This is still a term that many use in the industry. Therefore, the efforts of this important work on C-24 will provide a more transparent connection between sustainability and adhesive and sealant products," said Steve Duren, DIRECTOR of Member Services at ASC.
