International. PPG Industries is commercializing first-application electrocoating-based technology for aircraft manufacturers and subcontractors that coat commercial, military and general aircraft parts.
The product called Aerocron offers better corrosion protection than conventional spray primers, as electrocoating improves some of the coverage, reduces weight to improve fuel economy and eliminates exposure to splashes on jobs.
The first is applied to metal structures for corrosion resistance. In the electrocoating process, the metal parts are immersed inside a prime electric charge tank.
"Even in the most complicated areas in parts of the aircraft, this technology manages to reduce weight, which translates into a representative economic saving of operations," said Robin Peffer, senior chemical researcher at PPG Coatings Innovation.
