International. Stickerfix is a solution for the repair and protection of damage to bodies that is part of the Automotive & Aerospace Coatings division of AkzoNobel (A&AC) and that already works with a Formula 1 motorsport team: Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.
The AkzoNobel division has been working with the British team for three years, and after a testing process, the agreement to implement Stickerfix has been extended for next year. This adhesive system is coated with the original paint of the car and allows the painted vinyl to be instantly applied to the damage that occurs in the body of the vehicle.
"Most people don't realize how much work goes into between races to prepare for the next one. In addition to the fact that the cars suffer aesthetic damage, they are prepared in a different way for each race, to improve aerodynamics. That means there may be damage to the sheet metal or exposed rivets or other imperfections," said Jim Rees, CEO of A&AC.
"We have been working with A&AC since 2008 to create the most amazing shades and the lowest weight products for our paint shop area. We are now using stickerfix, an easy-to-use and adaptable solution to repair small damages to ensure that our cars are like new even if we cannot take them to the workshop," said Jonathan Neale, CEO of McLaren Racing.
