Brazil. An alliance between an architectural paint manufacturer and a chain of retail stores resulted in the new "Participate and Recycle" program, which seeks to encourage buyers to return used paint cans to incorporate them into a recycling process, according to local press.
The Coral brands, belonging to the AkzoNobelgroup, and the C&C department store chain, are part of the agreement signed on September 28 that began to be implemented that same day in the Sao Paulo area.
The program works for packaging and cans of architectural paints formulated in water, solvent or epoxy and supports a maximum of 30 cans per person each time the stores are visited.
This agreement is part of the corporate strategies of both companies, in which sustainability is one of the strategic pillars of development: "We want to inspire people through colors and sustainable attitudes, to contribute positively to our society," said Elaine Poco, Director of Sustainability of AkzoNobel's decorative line for Latin America.
He added that the agreement implies an articulation of the entire chain in favor of the environment, from manufacturers to consumers, through distributors.
To make the deal possible, C&C will train a group of employees on the specific methods of receipt and final disposal of these packages, so that they can receive any can of paint no matter what brand it is.
