Brazil. The German company Basf is evaluating new investment opportunities in Brazil and among its projects is to produce acrylic acid, butyl acrylate and superabsorbent polymers. To do this, the firm studies the technical, commercial and economic feasibility to operate a complex in that country.
Basf said that after the feasibility study he will make the decision on the factories and their capacity. Currently, the company produces butyl acrylate in Brazil, but there are no production plants for acrylic acid and superabsorbent polymers in South America, due to the existence of imports of these products.
Basf and local company Braskem signed an agreement for the latter to provide the propylene that will boost the German firm's production in Brazil.
