The new system reduces the testing of anticorrosive paints from about 20 days to 24 hours, which is an important advance, as it will help reduce corrosion losses that are estimated to cause capital flight of around 300,000 million euros per year worldwide.
Thanks to this drastic reduction from days to hours, which will be developed through the "spin-off" Medco S.L. of the Science and Technology Park of the UJI, Espaitec, the paint formulator reaches the final product much earlier because the technique allows him to perform numerous tests in a short time. This is especially relevant for the industry since the current legislation, to avoid the emission of volatiles, forces to move from solvent-based paints to paints to water. The process also provides qualitative data on the failure mode of the coating. This information is not reflected in the traditional salt spray test, but is of great interest both to paint or lacquered producers, as well as to the aeronautics, automotive and construction sectors.
