Services to stand out and consolidate

For many years in the industrial segments there has been talk of the risk that technology manufacturers choose to reach end users directly, skipping with a single attempt almost the entire service and distribution chain.

For many this is not appropriate; for others, who have financial muscle, it could be. However, the reason for this column is not such a dilemma, it is to expose a case in which offering a service that almost no one promotes can turn a company into a prominent firm from the perception of the end user, but also into a fundamental ally for manufacturers and contractors / distributors.

On one of the trips that the editor made recently, he met the president of a company that performs unusual work. Its function is to service equipment developed by a manufacturer (and installed by contractors). As a way to make life easier for the end user and the other links in the chain; the company in question offers the repair and maintenance service for a certain type of equipment, avoiding replacing the entire units, as was always done; such activity became very important for companies, because we live in times in which the maximization of financial resources is fundamental.

In this way, the service provider perfectly identified the distribution chain; the possibility of offering maintenance to equipment that was traditionally replaced in its entirety was conceived and generated a competitive advantage for the manufacturer.

With this scheme the manufacturer won because its brand is projected to the end user as an actor that accompanies the whole process and cares that the customers of their customers always have the best. The distributor won because he sells his customer a product or solution that has unparalleled support and that if he even required support in the installation he would get it immediately. The end customer won because he no longer has to think about replacing an entire unit, but the possibility of changing parts appears and this saves him huge amounts of money. The maintenance service provider won because it became a must-have part of the business structure.

The conclusion is that being creative you can identify business possibilities that no one ever identified and perhaps in this way find profitability and sustenance for the rest of your life.
