International. Using low-temperature plasma treatments, Chinese scientists investigated its influence on the adhesion of the ecological paint film of the wooden surface, discovering as a result an improvement in the adhesion of the coating.
The researchers used decorative beech wood veneer as a substrate to apply low-temperature plasma in order to modify the polished surface of the veneer and the UV-primed surface. Subsequently, the water-based primer coating process was carried out.
The influence of plasma treatment on layer adhesion between UV primer and water-based top layer, and on adhesion between water-based primer, water-based top layer and substrate in the organic production of wood products was investigated. The influence of plasma treatment on the adhesion of the ecological paint film of the wooden surface was examined by analyzing the wettability, micro topography of the surface and the chemical components of the plasma.
The results showed that the plasma-modified treatment could increase the wettability of the beech wood primer and the first UV, and generate a large number of functional groups containing oxygen and peroxide, as well as other active groups on the surface, which helps to improve the adhesion of the paint film on the surface.
