In order to perform corrosion resistance tests on metal elements and coatings for the chemistry laboratory, a group of Mechanical Engineering students from the Francisco de Miranda University (Unefm), built a saline chamber.
This type of device in the project is used to evaluate and study the behavior of a material in a chemically active environment, under the determination of sodium chloride, and was created by students Yeremaith Carroz and José Avendado.
Carroz explained that the investigation had in the first phase with the informative collection and then establish the specifications and alternatives of design of the camera, after the design and elaboration of plans and the third phase the construction of the camera.
"This allowed us to prepare the specimens for the test, applying sandpaper on the surface and eliminating any trace of rust and impurities," added Carroz that the machine works at a constant temperature, within the ranges allowed by the ASTM standard, which establishes the standards of construction and design of this type of temperatures.
The chamber will remain in the laboratory of the University, in order that students can carry out their tests, as well as painting companies that need to know the degree of corrosion of their products.
