International. AkzoNobel's specialty chemicals business recently began construction of a new alkoxylation plant in Ningbo, China, bringing the company's total investment in the multi-strategic site to more than €400 million.
The new site covers around 50 hectares and has production capacity for chelates, ethylene amines, ethylene oxide, organic peroxides and Bermocoll cellulose derivatives. This latest investment will increase the annual capacity of about 18,000 tons, which mainly serve domestic demand in China.
The company further stated that the new facility also generates a more sustainable footprint in the region. The addition to the capacity in alkoxylation (the process of reacting a fatty amine with ethylene oxide to prepare ethoxylated amines) will allow the company to better serve its customers in the agrochemical, oilfield and personal care markets.
