Mexico. The paints and coatings sector in the North American country will close during 2014 with minimal growth, according to Javier Maldonado, curator of the National Association of Paint and Ink Manufacturers (Anafapyt), Javier Maldonado Moctezuma.
2% is the general expectation. The executive, in statements published by PeriodicoDigial.mx said that the sector estimates these results due to the financial crisis that the country is going through, mainly affecting the architectural guild; however, he stressed that despite the current moment, the automotive market has good expectations thanks to the arrival of new assemblers.
Information from Anafapyt indicates that Mexico manufactures 137,302 million liters of paint per year, and the automotive division means 41% of total production, for 56,254 million liters per year. The growth of this market could reach 10%.
However, the sector is not generating jobs: "We do not have a report of job creation, they are unions that bring with them a restructuring; rather, fewer jobs are generated, as people are rearranged elsewhere because positions are doubled; then it is not exactly the most desirable in terms of job creation, from then on we have no knowledge of large investments, except in the automotive branch, "Maldonado explained to the local newspaper.
