International. As every year, Axalta Coating Systems, published its study on color trends for the automotive sector, called Global Automotive Color Popularity Report 2014, which is segmented by the different regions.
Since 1953 this report has been presented that this year indicates that white, black and gray colors are predominating the market. In addition, the study presented four color groups: pale shades, bright colors, soft and dark tones for the near future.
"Our popularity data not only allows us to see the colors preferred by consumers, more importantly, it gives us the opportunity to predict future trends," said David Fischer, vice president of OEM Light Vehicle Marketing at Axalta.
Below are the results by region:
North America:
• White tops the charts with 25%.
• Red, which is more popular in North America than in other regions, rose 3% in popularity.
• White, silver and black are down 1% this year
• Pearls are the most popular coating in the United States
• Solid white is preferred in Mexico.
South America:
• A strong preference for whites with 27% of vehicles, and silver, with 25%, shows that light colors are the most popular
• Black is third in popularity with 12%.
• Red increased 1% this year to 11% overall, showing an increase in color preference.
Europe:
• Europe has the most blue vehicles on the road, with the main interest in light and medium tones.
• The main increases in blue were seen in the compact/sports and multi-purpose vehicle categories.
• Silver and white continue to decline
• Green has not captivated the eye of the buyer, and maintains only 1% popularity.
Asia:
• There is a strong preference for whites at 30%, with the highest use in South Korea at 34%.
• Black has slightly decreased its preference, but still ranks second with 19%.
• Black is the most popular in luxury vehicles in China at 24%.
• Blue is more popular in Japan than in other Asian countries.
