Brazil. Basf invested 2.5 million euros in new equipment to increase the production of water-based automotive coatings at its plant located in Sao Paulo.
The aim is to meet the market demands generated by new car manufacturers and by the trend of using water-based technology instead of solvent-based. Another trend in the market is the use of integrated processes where the paintline is shortened in a single step.
In South America, Basf has two plants producing car paints, one in Demarchi, Brazil, and the other in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In 2013, Brazil was the world's fourth largest market for car sales and ranks seventh in vehicle production, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.
