Mexico. PPG Industries announced plans to invest more than $27 million in its coatings manufacturing plant in San Juan del Rio, Queretaro.
This expansion project will add four new buildings to the current complex, representing 10,000m2 for production, laboratories and offices. The company has already officially started the expansion with the groundbreaking ceremony and estimates the completion of the project by 2015. This expansion is expected to employ more than 115 people, a 30% increase over its current workforce.
This additional capacity will allow PPG to meet the growing demand for its coatings from the Automotive (OEM), Packaging, Protective and Marine Coatings (PMC) and Industrial business units in Mexico. The new facility will integrate green building designs that will provide natural light in employee areas, using smart lighting systems to maximize energy efficiency and incorporating water recycling capacity into building operating systems.
