International. According to a study by consulting firm Kusumgar, Nerlfi & Growney, global consumption of radiation-cured adhesives, inks and coatings in 2012 was 868 million pounds, equivalent to $4.495 billion.
Coatings recorded the highest figure with 78% of the volume and 58% of the value. Wood and overprints are the end uses of the leading coating, which has almost three-quarters of the volume and 60% of the monetary figures. A wide variety of plastic applications, such as vinyl flooring, consumer electronics housings, car headlight lenses, and CDs took 18% of the pounds of coatings and 24% of the money.
The ink industry consumed 18% of the volume of radiation-cured products and 35% of the value in 2012. While the adhesives industry got 4% of the volume of radiation-cured product in 2012 and 7% of the dollars.
The Asia Pacific region led in 2012 the consumption of products of this type with 35% of the market, as well as the region with the fastest growth with 10% per year. North America and Europe also each account for 35% of the market. Europe captures 31% of the global volume and North America 26%. Both regions would grow annually between 3 and 4%.
