United States. The Adhesives and Sealants Council (ASC) once again submitted questions to the Green Building Council (Usgbc) regarding the 2012 V.4 LEED Building Rating System, including comments focused on research tools and the new verification process added to the most recent project.
In this round of feedback, ASC asked direct questions related to how LEED develops its accreditation options. Among them, he asked for information about who is reading and elaborating on the answers to industry questions and comments directed at the Latest Usgbc proposal, as well as finding out why they chose not to use an ANSI-accredited process for the development of the latest LEED proposal even though the Usgbc is an ANSI-accredited organization.
ASC also questioned usgbc's reliance on the Cradle to Cradle tool (creating systems that are completely free of waste) and GreenScreen's (green screen) to assess the risks of finished building materials products.
"The Usgbc continues to include the GreenScreen as a tool that can be used by the industry in order to obtain credits, even though this was only developed to evaluate product ingredients and alternatives in a Research + Development environment. Trying to use it as a way to characterize finished products, and therefore obtain credit, is a complete misrepresentation of a legitimate investigative instrument," said Mark Collatz, ASC's director of regulatory affairs.
