North America. By early April 1, 2011, or as contracts permit, Basf reported that it will increase the prices of some of its products used for the development of a new paint.
The products that will go up in price are 1.6 Hexanediol (HDO), epsilon-caprolactone (CLO), PolyCLO (Capromer™), 1.5 pentandiol (DOP), and neopentyl glycol hydroxypyvalic acid ester, worth US$0.09 per pound, as are all grades of neopentyl glycol (NPG, neol ®), at US$0.15 per pound.
The aforementioned polyalcohols are widely used in solvent-free coatings and for the production of polyurethanes, alkyd resins, unsaturated polyester resins and synthetic lubricants.
Likewise, as of March 1 of this year, Basf reported an increase in prices in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for resins and dispersions for the coatings, printing and packaging industries of 3 – 12%, as long as existing contracts allow it. The price increase affects, but is not limited to, the following product ranges: Joncryl ®, Luhydran, and Acronal ®.
Basf said the increase is necessary because of the significant costs of key raw materials.
