United States. Fast food chain McDonalds has recalled glasses alluding to Shrek's new film in the U.S. for containing cadmium, as exposure to the metal can cause weak bones and kidney problems. The Country's Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that although the amount of this mineral found in products is actually minimal, MacDonalds is working to contain out of the market the 12 million copies manufactured by ARC International.
In the case of these vessels the problem is that, despite the low levels of cadmium, it can leak from the paint to a child's hand and enter his body if the child puts his hand unwashed in his mouth.
The glasses have been sold as part of the promotional campaign for the film "Shrek Forever after 3D", which were available in four motifs: Shrek, Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots and Donkey.
