Nouryon transitions to 100% renewable electricity in Brazil

Energía renovable

Brazil. Specialty chemicals company Nouryon announced that its nine manufacturing plants in Brazil now run on electricity sourced solely from renewable energy sources.

According to the company, this helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy.

Nouryon has 60 manufacturing plants worldwide, nine of them in Brazil, representing 25% of the company's total electricity use. This achievement is part of the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

"Nouryon's dedication to sustainability extends beyond our products and processes; encompasses our entire manufacturing network," said Eduardo Nardinelli, senior vice president of South America and global carbon business leader at Nouryon.

"These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to reducing our environmental impact while improving our customers' ability to achieve their sustainability goals," he said.

As part of its long-term carbon management strategy, Nouryon continues to explore opportunities to transition other sites in its global manufacturing network to electricity from renewable sources.

In 2021, Nouryon achieved carbon neutrality1 at five sites in Brazil operated by Nouryon (Imperatriz, Eunápolis, Três Lagoas (2) and Jacareí), as part of the Company's Integrated Manufacturing Model, which offers on-site production of sodium chlorate and/or chlorine dioxide.

Nouryon received a Platinum rating from EcoVadis for its sustainability performance in 2022.

The company aims to reduce its absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019, and aims to be a net-zero organization by 2050.
