Canada. The Government of Prince Edward Island and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), on behalf of the Government of Canada, are investing in the expansion of MDS Coating Technologies (MCT) facilities.
The government says it will also create well-paid jobs for highly skilled workers in the province.
MCT is receiving $10.4 million in joint financial support to build a 15,000-square-foot addition to its Slemon Park location.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is contributing US$2.9 million to assist MCT with the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for 3D metal printing, cleaning and coating to increase production to meet growing commercial demand.
The $7.5 million provincial investment, which includes a $500,000 grant from Innovation PEI, will also go toward the purchase of specialized aerospace equipment to enable MCT to meet the growing demand for its advanced coating technology solutions.
"The coating technology MCT has developed in PEI has helped its multinational customers work faster and better, and our investment in MDS is our vote of confidence that they will continue to be an integral part of the island's economy as global leaders in the aerospace industry," said Gilles Arsenault, Minister of Economic Development. Innovation and Commerce.
"The innovative work we are seeing from MDS Coating Technologies is boosting the local economy and is already driving positive environmental change around the world," said Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont.
"This funding will further boost the greening of the aerospace industry and we are proud to offer our continued support."
"This support will be a catalyst for MDS Coating to transition from cutting-edge technology to new markets. Our growth will directly stimulate the local economy by creating additional skilled jobs in the cleantech and advanced manufacturing sectors on Prince Edward Island," said Adam Casey, vice president of operations for MDS Coating Technologies.
