International. Solvay announces that the Science-Based Targets (SBTi) initiative, a global body made up of leading climate organisations, has approved the Group's 2030 emissions reduction targets.
This validation reaffirms Solvay's goal of reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, as set out in its Solvay One Planet sustainability roadmap.
"We are proud to receive this recognition from SBTi, which reflects our continued commitment to raising the bar in the fight against climate change by setting serious, science-based goals that will help us combat global warming," said Solvay CEO Ilham Kadri.
"Our 2030 targets represent a key milestone on Solvay's path to carbon neutrality by 2050. SBTi validation gives us more confidence that we are on the right track to achieve the goals needed to help save our planet and protect future generations," Kadri added.
Solvay has launched numerous energy transition projects to switch to renewable electricity, accelerate electrification and phase out coal.
By the end of 2022, the Group had already achieved a 15% structural reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2018, a performance that puts Solvay well ahead of its target trajectory.
In 2022, Solvay also set itself the goal of reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, both upstream and downstream of the value chain, focusing on two priorities: mobilising strategic suppliers and accelerating circularity, in particular through its renewable materials and biotechnology growth platform. which aims to accelerate the shift to bio-based and recycled raw materials.
