International. Solvay announces that production of its hydroquinone (HQ) and hydroquinone monomethylether (MeHQ) in Saint-Fons, France, has been accredited to comply with the ISCC PLUS System mass balance accounting regime.
HQ and MeHQ (also called paramethoxyphenol, PMP) are frequently used as building blocks in the formulation of polyetheretherketone (PEEK), liquid crystal polymer (LCP), and other high-performance engineering thermoplastics.
HQ and MeHQ also serve as raw materials in epoxy and polyester coatings, in polyurethane adhesives and as inhibitors for monomer stabilization during production, storage and transportation.
Other industrial application areas include the synthesis of rubber chemicals, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
The vast majority of companies in these industries have set ambitious goals that seek to reduce the carbon footprint of their products and minimize the depletion of fossil raw materials.

The substitution of primary fossil resources for certified mass balance and responsibly sourced renewable feedstocks aligns with Solvay One Planet's roadmap to continuously improve the sustainability of Solvay's own operations (Scope 1, 2 and 3), as it also helps customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions.
