International. Celanese, a global chemicals company, announces the availability of more sustainable versions of multi-acetyl chain materials with mass balance biocontent.
These bids will be designated as ECO-B, in line with innovative bio-based offerings submitted to engineering materials customers in previous years.
While many acetyl chain solutions already help customers improve sustainability by reducing waste and material use, this expanded product portfolio provides the opportunity to take an extra step with an offering that is chemically identical to standard products.
Mass balancing allows fossil and biological raw materials to be mixed into production, but accounted for separately through a third-party certified accounting process.
The approach allows the transition from fossil feedstocks to renewables to occur while preserving the energy efficiency benefits associated with large-scale manufacturing.
Bio-based raw materials originate from non-fossil sources and can come from various types of organic waste.
"Celanese's ECO-B products enable customers to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions in their end-use products and advance their renewable content goals," said Celanese President, CEO and President Lori Ryerkerk.
"The planned offerings, which include our ECO-B emulsion polymers, Elotex redispersible powders and EVA Ateva polymers, not only provide a strong value proposition to help customers meet reduced greenhouse gas footprint and sustainable content targets, but also enable them to create more differentiated products." Ryerkerk added.
