Archroma presents technology to turn textile waste into dyes

Textil

International. Archroma presents the FiberColors technology, with which the company recycles textile waste in different colors. The colours are synthesized from a minimum content of 50% waste-based raw material.

Archroma's R+D experts have developed a way to use cotton and/or polyamide and their blends (with a purity of more than 95%) to replace a large part of the petroleum-based raw material that is usually used to make dyes.

FiberColors is ideal for forward-thinking companies that want to help find a solution to textile landfills while also giving value to waste, including items collected in their return schemes that cannot be reused.

The patent-pending and therefore exclusive to Archroma FiberColors range includes five dyes covering a palette of timeless shades, Diresul Fiber-Teak (brown tones), Diresul Fiber-Ochre (olive tones), Diresul Fiber-Maroon (burgundy tones), Diresul Fiber-Slate (bluish-grey tones) and Diresul Fiber-Graphite (dark grey tones).

The dyes are particularly suitable for cellulose fibres such as cotton, viscose, linen and capoc, and can be used in continuous, exhaustion, denim and garment dyeing and printing processes.

With this, according to the company, a brand can turn its own pre- and post-consumer textile waste into its own colors and create a complete collection that includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and home textiles.

Archroma CEO Heike van de Kerkhof commented: "After creating colors from food and herb waste with EarthColors, we are taking another step in circular manufacturing with FiberColors, tackling the huge global problem of textile and fashion waste."

"This is how we realize our purpose of leading our industry towards a more sustainable future for our customers and markets. Because it's our nature," he added.
