AkzoNobel facilities bet on 100% renewable electricity

Instalaciones AkzoNobel

North America. All AkzoNobel locations in North America are now powered by 100% renewable electricity, helping drive the company's ambition to reduce carbon emissions across the value chain by 50% by 2030.

The transition to 100% renewable electricity in North America includes manufacturing sites, offices, warehouses and research and development facilities. However, according to the company, it looks far beyond its own operations.

The milestone is the latest in AkzoNobel's ongoing efforts to transition to 100% renewable electricity at all its sites globally, with Europe achieving the milestone in early 2022.

"We have aligned our own sustainability ambitions with the Paris agreement, which aims to limit global warming and ensure that global temperature rise does not exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels," explained AkzoNobel's Head of Sustainability, Wijnand Bruinsma.

"As the first paints and coatings company to also set science-based sustainability goals, we are determined to deliver on our ambitions and this achievement in North America is another big step in the right direction," continued Bruinsma.

"In addition to moving to renewable electricity and reducing our overall energy consumption, we are also working across our entire value chain," he added.

"We are interacting with our suppliers and continue to develop sustainable solutions that help our customers reduce their own carbon footprint," he said, providing some examples of how AkzoNobel is moving towards 100% renewable electricity globally:

Self-generated renewable electricity: install solar panels in many of the places and continue to progress constantly.

Renewable electricity supply: The electricity generated by solar panels covers only a part of the total electricity consumption needs. For the rest, the purchase of renewable electricity with a certificate of origin will continue.
