International. Two representatives of the company BYK analyze the dispersants DISPERBYK-2018, designed for organic and inorganic pigments, and DISPERBYK-2019 for inorganic pigments.
International. According to Pilar Casas and José Andrés Bello, from BYK-Chemie GmbH and BYK Marketing & Technical Service, the requirements in aqueous paints are increasingly demanding: formulation in high pH, without biocides, without VOCs, formulation of concentrates compatible with bases of different nature, pigments of difficult wettability, among others.
In an article published on the Comindex portal, both professionals raise the need to formulate two dispersants with a wide application profile and that can be used in a wide variety of markets and sectors: DISPERBYK-2018 and DISPERBYK-2019.
These two are new moisturizing and dispersing additives that, as they point out, "offer maximum performance by combining a strong viscosity reduction (Newtonian flow) with excellent storage stability and providing maximum performance in the pigments used".
Casas and Bello point out that although both additives can be used in a wide variety of sectors, they differ from each other with respect to their recommendations depending on the specific application.
Although the DISPERBYK-2018 achieves outstanding results in aqueous architectural paints across the spectrum of inorganic and organic pigments, including transparent iron oxides, both additives are suitable for pavement, industrial, maintenance, wood and automotive coatings.
In short, both have excellent optical properties in terms of coloring strength, transparency and high brightness.
"Their wide compatibility, the strong viscosity reduction they provide, the optimal storage stability that is achieved even at high pH and the absence of biocides and VOCs, make these two new wetting and dispersing additives perfect candidates to face the challenges of an increasingly demanding market," they conclude.
