Wacker presented polymeric binders and silicones for coatings, adhesives and sealants

Brazil. Wacker exhibits at Abrafati 2019 (event that goes until this October 3) new products based on polymers and silicones for the coatings, adhesives and sealants industry. The Group presented a technology to formulate powder coatings for walls, polymer dispersions for bituminous coatings and binders for cement mineral plastering, among others.

It also focuses on a new silicone resin binder for façade paints and a protective coating based on silane for concrete floors and self-leveling regrowth.

At this fair, Wacker presented for the first time in Latin America dispersible polymeric powders for the formulation of wall paints, free of biocides. Most paints are made with water-based raw materials or binders. Since water provides an especially favorable environment for the appearance of germs and bacteria, a biocide is often added to the formulation of paints.

With the new polymeric spray drying binders based on vinyl acetate and ethylene (VAE), wall paints can be manufactured in powder form. This technology makes it possible to dispense with biocides and offers significant advantages in the transport and storage of paint, since it is not dispersed until water is added just before use. The paint has a very low content of volatile organic compounds (<1 g/l) and meets the requirements of the main eco-labels. In addition, these paints give off little odor and do not require organic solvents, softeners or coalescing agents. Polymers provide paints with properties such as good adhesion, ease of application, high covering power and resistance to washing.

Wacker presents for the first time the binder Silres BS 6042. This binder contains a novel silicone resin emulsion that allows the formulation of fast-drying, extraordinarily durable and dirt-resistant façade paints. The aqueous emulsion does not contain any organic solvents, so it is suitable for formulating paints suitable for ecological certification. Silres BS 6042, developed specifically for the Latin American market, also allows the formulation of plasters and paints for facades with a high solid content. Thanks to its compatibility with pigments, it is possible to manufacture high-quality silicone resin paints without much effort.

Polymer dispersion for bituminous coatings
Wacker also presents polymer dispersions for bituminous coatings: Vinneva. Polymers make bituminous emulsions more flexible and resistant to mechanical loads of all kinds. Binders improve the properties of bituminous emulsions and ensure excellent adhesion of coatings to concrete, cement and bricks. In addition, the pitch modified with Vinnena provides optimal protection against water infiltration on roofs and basements.

Binder for cement mineral plastering
Wacker introduced an application for indoor and outdoor plasters. Often, a plastering composed of cement, polymeric binders, mineral fillers and various additives is applied in order to obtain especially thin and smooth surfaces. Vinnapas dispersible polymer powder based on vinyl acetate and ethylene (VAE) improves the properties of cement plastering: it provides better adhesion to masonry, concrete or insulating plates, as well as greater flexibility. The polymers also guarantee good workability and excellent weather resistance.

Solutions for dirt-repellent surfaces
To obtain surfaces that repel dirt, Wacker presents the Primis SAF 9000 dispersion and the Silres BS 710 anti-graffiti active ingredient concentrate. The Primis SAF 9000 dispersion has a special oleophobic and hydrophobic composition while providing indoor paints with resistance to many types of dirt, from coffee to wine or crayons.

Alternative binder for concrete and screed coatings
Silres BS 6920 is a binder based on alpha-silene technology, which provides extraordinary protection to highly trafficked concrete floors and self-leveling screeds. Thanks to its low viscosity, it penetrates well into the pores of cementitious soils and fills them completely. On the surface a shiny and abrasion-resistant film is formed, which protects the soil and prevents the formation of stains and dirt. Not even the most persistent spots, which had not been removed until hours later, leave permanent marks.

Adhesives and sealants with new properties
Modern adhesives and sealants are increasingly used in a wide range of sectors such as construction, transport or energy. Wacker polymers finished in silane groups not only have high tensile strength, flexibility and weather resistance, but also provide good workability and increase performance in the manufacture of adhesives. In this way, they meet the important requirements demanded today by manufacturers and users to modern technologies of adhesives and sealants.
